Idris Elba wins at film awards
Luther star Idris Elba picked up the Best Actor gong at the London Evening Standard Awards for his role in the West African civil war drama Beasts Of No Nation.
Elba, who is also rumoured to be in the running as the next James Bond, said director Cary Fukunaga had worked for six years to get the film together before he came onboard. The director, he said, is half Japanese, half American, “the crew were from New York and Ghana, and the money came from all over. That is diversity!”

Meanwhile Dame Maggie Smith picked up the Best Actress gong for her ole in the movie, The Lady In The Van. It's the fourth time Dame Magge has picked up the award..
Brooklyn, starring Saise Ronan about an Irish immigrant in 1950s America, won the Best Film award, beating 45 Years, The Lobster and High-Rise.
A special award went to writer Alan Bennett for his contribution to film.
